  16. This document describes plans for support of route aggregation, as
  17. specified in the descriptions of Classless Inter-Domain Routing (CIDR)
  18. and the BGP-4 protocol, by the NSFNET Backbone Network Service.
  19. Mechanisms for exchange of route aggregates between the backbone
  20. service and regional/midlevel networks are specified.  Additionally,
  21. the memo proposes the implementation of an Aggregate Registry which
  22. can be used by network service providers to share information about
  23. the use of aggregation.  Finally, the operational impact of
  24. incorporating CIDR and aggregation is considered, including an
  25. analysis of how routing table size will be affected.  This impact
  26. analysis will be used to modify the deployment plan, if necessary, to
  27. maximize operational stability.

  30. not specify an Internet standard.  Distribution of this memo is
  31. unlimited.
